Economic activity is the core of our free market society.  And the best thing government can do to facilitate a vibrant economy is to stay out of the way of productive businesses and entrpreneurs.  There are two primary principles that government should consider with regard to business:

  1. Reduce/remove barriers to economic development--eliminate any and all subsidies, special permissions, etc.
  2. Strong anti-fraud enforcement through objectively defined laws in the Civil Courts.
A free market must actually be free to operate--by the rights inherant in the ownership of property--not subject to the approval of others who neither own the property nor demonstrate that they are being objectively harmed by a property owner's actions.

Local Chesterfield County, Virginia Issue:

ABOLISH PROFFERS: Proffers are a stunningly anti-capitalist and corrupt practice in Chesterfield County which must be abolished.  The practice amounts to legalized bribery/blackmail on the part of The Baord of Supervisors where developers and others are bascially bullied: either give us this lump sum of money or we'll deny your zoning application.  I'm sure there are many who would argue for this corrupt system, but there are simply no justifications for the practice.
